“In these times” many of us have been uprooted, suffered from the virus itself and/or its economic consequences, maybe we have also taken time for introspection as “these times” have illuminated some ugly realities.
It’s a strange time for those of us who work in music, and to me it’s been quite difficult to replace the release I get from a soundsystem. Nonetheless I think it remains incredibly important for the music community to share hope and of course music itself.
The Blinds is a trilogy of collaborations between AceMo, Eartheater, Poozy and myself which have taken place over the last few years in different locations in New York. John Opera’s cyanotype image is a portal to the sounds of The Blinds, a pretty nice poster for the concerts that are not happening.
I think these works to me speak to the limits of perception, a frustration in divisions, projection and fantasy as a leisure activity. These are long form compositions which require attention but hold rewards for those who pay it forward. I think they also hold a more meditative quality than usual, which is one of the reasons I would like to share them now when many people are finding their chill.
It is my hope that the combination of music, image, and the Crystal Shop inspired writing I’ve been doing, together offer The Blinds. If you do decide to play along and purchase the editioned print with music, I hope you will capture an image or video of the work in your home. You can email these to me,
